MRP&R General Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in Mojave River Review. Submissions for our fall/winter issue are now OPEN until 11:59 p.m., December 20th, 2019. You can watch for future announcements via our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

MRR is an online publication, and we're honored to read your best work. Please read both the general guidelines and the additional guidelines specific to your submission category. Submissions that do not adhere to guidelines will be declined. Note also that work we deem as misogynistic, racist, homophobic, sadistic, "hateful mean-spirited personal attack revenge lit" and the like will be declined.

We publish poetry, flash fiction, flash non-fiction/creative non-fiction, hybrid works, chapbook/book reviews, plus articles or interviews relevant to arts and letters. We are genuinely eclectic, open to all styles and topics, but are especially interested in poets, writers, and works related to southwest/desert culture(s), and (this is new!) works with an animal lovers/animal rights focus, i.e., animal friendly/ ennobling.

Works published in MRR have appeared in prestigious annual anthologies such as Best New Poets (Linda Blaskey) and Best Small Fictions (James Claffey).

No previously published work of any kind, please. We require First Serial Rights, as we are looking to debut new work. Mojave River Review is not a paying market at this time; however, we do entusiastically publicize authors and artists. Simultaneous submissions are okay, but if work is accepted elsewhere please withdraw your submission via Submittable and accept our congratulations. No multiple submissions, please, and don't submit to more than one category at a time. Reply time varies. If you haven't heard back after 90 days, please do inquire.

Rights revert to authors and artists upon publication, and you are free to publish it elsewhere thirty (30) days after it appears with us, with Mojave River Review credited for first publication of your work. Publication in the Mojave River Review grants Non-Exclusive Digital Rights to archive the work online, and Non-Exclusive Reprint Rights to include work in Mojave River anthologies and promotions. We enthusiastically nominate poets and writers for the Pushcart Prize, Sundress Best of the Net, Best New Poets, Best Small Fictions, and other awards, such as those given by PEN America and the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP).
